Program Instructor
Spring and Fall Employment 2009
2 Locations:
- Camp Sky-Y in Prescott, AZ : located in the Prescott National Forest, just 7 miles from the town of Prescott.. Beautiful and cool location, 2 hours from Phoenix, 2 hours to Flagstaff, and just a few hours to the Grand Canyon.
- Chauncey Ranch in Mayer, AZ: 1 hour north of Phoenix on the Aqua Fria river in the high desert. 1 hour to Flagstaff, 24 miles to Prescott Valley. Home to equestrian program run by Prescott College.
Part-time hourly and Full-time residential positions available: Full time positions include room and board when groups are onsite, and require evening and weekend work. Part-time positions are hourly and do not include housing.
Start date: Positions begin in mid February 2009 , but we may be hiring throughout the spring season. Work available until May 23rd, 2009. Possible fall season is Sep-Nov. Opportunity to extend employment into our residential summer camp , summer equestrian program or summer teen trip program.
Position Description: Program Instructors teach outdoor education classes and recreational activities to visiting youth and adults. Staff also host groups in the dining hall, clean facilities, and help in the kitchen as needed. During the week we see mostly elementary and middle school students and their teachers/parents from the greater Phoenix area. Weekend groups consist of youth groups, girl scouts, adult teambuilding retreats, and family camps. Weekend and evening work required for full time staff. Types of activities we offer: Group Initiatives, High Ropes Courses, Giant Swing, Pamper Pole, Zip Line, Climbing Tower, Orienteering, Nature Hike, Wildlife Ecology, Edible Plants, Owl Pellet Dissection, Communication and Team-Building, Archery, Paintball, Canoeing, Fishing, Horseback riding, Gold Panning, Fire-building, Survival Skills, Campfire songs/skits, Night Hikes and Group Games. Training provided.
Benefits:
- $290/week for residential full time staff, $7.25-8.00/hr for part time staff
- Meals provided when groups are onsite for full and part time staff. Full time staff have use of kitchen to cook when there are no groups onsite.

Qualifications:
- Prior experience teaching in one of the following areas: residential camp,- -school, day care, day camp, YMCA programs, youth sports, ropes courses, team-building, group initiatives or after school programs.
- Love of the outdoors and willingness to teach lesson plans, facilitate teambuilding, provide great customer service, give announcements in the dining hall and complete camp chores.
- Desire to become a part of a small camp community.
- Training provided. Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Lifeguards encouraged to apply, or those willing to receive lifeguard certification.
- Ability to pass CPR/AED/First Aid training
- Pass criminal background check
- Ropes course, rock-climbing, team-building or environmental education experience desired.
