Catapult: Students compete in small groups to build a catapult out of given supplies that will launch a stuffed animal as far as possible. They will also create an advertisement to sell their product. Ideal for 6th grade or younger. Day or evening program.

High Ropes Course, Zip Line and Giant Swing: Build Self Confidence, agility, and support your fellow classmates as you traverse wires, ropes, logs and take the plunge on our Giant Swing or Zip Line. Safety and positive encouragement are the backbone of these classes. Giant Swing is located at Sky-Y, Zip Line at Chauncey Ranch. Ideal for 7th grade and older) Giant Swing can be done at night for small groups.

Climbing Tower: Build self-confidence and physical fitness as your climb our rock wall.

Pamper Pole: Overcome your fears, as you climb the pole and leap for the trapeze!!

Owl Pellets/Birding: Students will learn about the adaptations of birds, what sets birds apart from other vertebrates, the diversity of birds, human impact on the environment, and will take hike into the forest to go bird watching. Students will also spend part of the class dissecting owl pellets and learning about the food chain of birds of prey.

Trust Trip: With active hands on activities, students will learn the importance of support from their classmates and create a tighter bond with each other. Some of these games are similar to Team Challenge but with more emphasis on spotting each other, trust and support.

Wildlife Ecology: We have combined two of our popular shorter classes of Adaptive Animals and Nature’s Niches. Through hands on games and activities students will learn of population, predator-prey, adaptations, camouflage, niche, human impact, and explore the forest.

Treemendous Trees: Students will explore the Prescott National Forest and learn about the tree and plant biodiversity though hands on activities. Students will learn about photosynthesis, tree identification, the importance of trees, and tree biology.

Early Arizona Skills: We have expanded our class formerly known as Gold Rush. Students discover the recent history of Sky-Y camp as the location of the Lost Chance Mine as well as learn about the Native Americans which once called northern Arizona home. We will practice skills of the miners of the 1800’s (such as panning for gold, using flint and steel to start a fire) as well as Native American skills (making rope, starting a fire by hand drill and bow drill, and making tea out of pine needles

Nature or Riparian Hike: Get some exercise in the great outdoors: At Chauncey Ranch students will explore the Riparian Zone of the Aqua Fria River, and at Sky-Y explore large rock formations. Along the way we’ll look for evidence of animals that share our environment or play a game or two along the trail.

Orienteering: Students learn about direction, pacing, degrees, earth’s magnetic field, and then to use their compasses to complete our compass course.

Archery: Develop skills with bows and arrows at our Archery Range

Outdoor Survival Skills: Learn about the rules of 3 for survival, what to do if lost in the woods, and how to construct an emergency shelter out of debris.

Canoeing: Learn the basics of canoeing and experience the aquatic environment first hand. At Camp Sky-Y schools must provide own transportation of Goldwater lake (3 miles away) Chauncey Ranch has pond on site. Lifeguard and all equipment provided.

Fishing: Student will attempt to reel in “the big one” in this class that teaches the fundamentals of fishing. Real poles, bait and fish make for an exciting experience.

Got Water?: Students examine aquatic ecosystems by exploring lakes, riverbeds, and the life zones within.

Horseback Riding: A chance to see the Arizona landscape on horseback. Students learn the basics of horsemanship, including riding techniques and safety on this two-hour trail ride.

Campfire: The traditional way of entertaining each other at camp. Skits, songs and stories led by Sky Y staff. S’mores are available for an additional charge of $2 per person.

Skit Night: Students provide the entertainment, and Camp staff can MC the event. Ideal for the second night of your stay – to give students a chance to prepare their skits. Skits must be approved by adult chaperones.

Night Hike: Discover the natural world at night and learn about nocturnal critters and their adaptations. Learn about our own senses, try some night time experiments, and gaze at a starry sky if clear.

Cabin Challenge: An indoor activity for those of you coming in our cooler months. Students are split into groups, and the “judges” will call for an item to present for points. Students have to think creatively to find this item or create the item with their own team. Charades, acting, telling jokes, and singing songs can all be involved. This activity sparks creativity and lets your students discover the hidden talents of their teammates. This is ideal for group of 50-200 students, and for grades 4th-8th.

Co-op Olympics: Students rotate in the class groups to various game stations that test their teambuilding skills. (Ideal for 6th grade or younger)
