2012 Specialty Camps

For the adventurous Teen who wants to focus on SPECIALIZED FUN.

Secret Agent Camp:
Campers ages 12-16
$605 limited enrollment
(available every session in 2012)
Campers will focus on teambuilding, surveillance strategy and stealth. These skills will be enhanced through playing paintball every day, playing night games and creating new variations of games. In addition to the paintball program campers will participate in traditional summer camp programs.

Outdoor Adventure:
Campers ages 9-16
$605 limited enrollment
 June 17-23, July 1-7, Sessions 4 & 6 week-long programs)
 Campers will have the opportunity to participate in ecology investigations, conduct experiments and collect local insects, amphibians, and reptiles to set up terrariums. They also will learn basic outdoor survival skills and have fun with basic camping activities such as canoeing & Rock Climbing. The week will end with a hike into the Prescott National Forest for an overnight tenting experience.

Counselors in Training (CIT) - Camp Sky-Y
Campers ages 16 & 17
$1,000 limited enrollment
June 3-16 or June 24-July 7
(Sessions 2 & 3 or Sessions 5 & 6, two week program)

This 2-week program is an introduction to learning working with and teaching children, and learning the roles and duties of a camp staff member. CIT’s will learn song and game leadership, behavior management, teaching camp activities, and the incorporation of YMCA core values in camp life. We will have an opportunity to visit another camp, give a tour of Sky-Y to other CIT’s, assist younger campers in signing up for activities, and help create a fun and exciting all camp event. This camp involves a 2-night overnight camping trip just for CIT’s. We will also focus on improving communication and team building skills with our peers. Campers will have an opportunity to shadow an older camp staff and put some of their learned skills to use by helping as an assistant counselor in a cabin of younger campers. An application is required and CIT’s will be chosen on the basis of maturity, prior leadership, work, volunteer, or childcare experience.
